Nevada City is located in Nevada County in California's Gold Country and is 60 miles (97 km) northeast of Sacramento and 28 miles north of Auburn. Nevada City's award-winning historic district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Old Nevada Theater is the oldest theater in California and is still operating.

Enjoy hiking or mountain biking on trails along the South Yuba River canyon or other trails wind past streams, historic sites and scenic views. Have a picnic, go boating, or enjoy the sandy beaches at Scotts Flat Lake. The Tahoe National Forest headquarters is also in Nevada City.

The Nevada City Classic is a cycling race that is usually held on Father's Day. The Constitution Day Parade is held the second Sunday of September and includes the Ophir Prison Marching Kazoo Band and the Famous Marching Presidents (and their First Ladies). The Sierra Storytelling Festival usually takes place each July in a pine-shaded amphitheater built specifically for storytelling.
